Cement mixer mishap victim laid to rest

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The female college student who was killed last week in a cement mixer truck accident, which left eight others injured, was laid to rest yesterday.

With family and friends in attendance, Marie Cherrie Inzon was buried at the Himlayang Pilipino Memorial Park in Tandang Sora.

Salvacion Inzon, the victim’s mother, bade her a tearful goodbye during the funeral rites at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Quezon City. She also thanked her family and friends, including members of media, whom she said were instrumental in letting the people know what really happened to Inzon.

“To my daughter, I salute you,” she said.

Inzon, a graduating student of the Sienna College, was left almost unrecognizable when she was pinned under a toppled cement mixer truck along Araneta Avenue last week, according to Senior Police Officer 4 Reynaldo Layug, commander of the Quezon City Police District’s Traffic Sector 1.

She was pronounced dead on arrival after she was rushed to the Sta. Teresita Hospital.

Inzon’s family had decided not to file charges against the driver, Reynaldo Guarte, who claimed that after the vehicle’s brakes failed, he decided to drive the cement mixer truck into a pothole near the victim.

A jeepney, which was loading passengers, was also crushed in the accident.
