Valenzuela cop relieved for punching woman
MANILA, Philippines - A police officer was relieved of his post as bailiff in the Valenzuela Hall of Justice and placed under restrictive custody for punching a 56-year-old woman in the face in Valenzuela City Monday night.
Senior Police Officer 2 Rajean Mirando is facing charges of physical injury, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Eric Armamento.
Sylvia Arellano filed a complaint against Mirando for the attack, which occurred at the Marulas market at past 8 p.m.
Mirando and his wife, Tessie, were allegedly asking Arellano to pay them the P20,000 she owed them since 2010.
Armamento said Tessie confronted Arellano first. During the confrontation, Mirando butted in, saying she was “bad grass†and she was “lucky to be alive.†Arellano shot back, asking Mirando, “And what about you, sir? You’re still alive.â€
“Mirando lost his temper so he punched the woman in the face. Then they left her. Sylvia said she was unconscious and when she woke up, the couple had left,†Armamento said.
He said the case against Mirando was not yet filed in court because the complainant has not returned to the police station as of yesterday.
Mirando will also face an administrative case of grave misconduct, Armamento said.
