Janitor nabbed for stealing ATM card

MANILA, Philippines - A bank janitor was arrested for allegedly stealing a woman’s automated teller machine (ATM) card in Malabon City Wednesday night.

Aron Conular, 44, will be charged for violating the Access Device Act of 1998, police said.

Vernadette Ramos, 24, told investigators she had just inserted her card in an ATM booth along J.P. Rizal street at past 9 p.m. when she noticed that its keypad had glue all over it.

Alarmed, the victim said she talked to Conular, who told her to seek the guard’s help. When Ramos left, the suspect took her card from the machine and ran.

Ramos noticed Conular leaving and chased him. The janitor rode a jeepney then transferred to a tricycle, police said, as Ramos sought police assistance.

Conular was later arrested by patrolling policemen and brought to the local police station. Police officers confiscated Ramos’ ATM card and a knife from Conular.
