PNP: No guns for cops who can’t shoot straight

Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With marksmanship still an issue among police officers, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima said yesterday police officers who cannot shoot straight will not be issued firearms.

Purisima said the PNP is using its funds to ensure that police officers all over the country take proficiency training to enhance their skills, especially in handling firearms and shooting at targets.

“All those who are set to be issued firearms, Glocks, will be tested on their proficiency in using and handling these firearms. If they fail, the PNP will not issue them any firearm,” Purisima added. “They will not be issued firearms until such time na magaling sila (they are proficient).”

He expressed the belief that proficiency could be achieved through regular training.
