Honest cop returns teacher’s lost bag, money

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A public school teacher rejoiced yesterday morning after a police sergeant recovered her lost bag and returned it to her, along with the P8,000 it contained.

Rubelyn Cruz of Malinta National High School said she was on the verge of crying after finding out that her bag, cell phone, and documents fell off her motorcycle Monday night.

“I went back to the places I passed to search for the bag but to no avail,” Cruz said.

Meanwhile, Senior Police Officer 3 Edgar Lim, officer-in-charge of the Valenzuela police’s detention center, was on his way home when he noticed a yellow bag along Maysan Road at past 7 p.m.

Senior Superintendent Eric Armamento, city police chief, said Lim took the bag and went back to the police station for safekeeping. Before he left, the phone inside the bag rang, said Armamento.

Lim told Cruz that her bag was with him. At 9 a.m. yesterday, the teacher went to the police station with two school children to recover it.

“I’m so happy that my bag landed in the hands of a good policeman,” Cruz said.
