Aquino to lead Lim team proclamation rally

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino will lead a proclamation rally for re-electionist Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and members of his local Liberal Party (LP) ticket at the Bonifacio Shrine on April 1 to kick off their campaign.

Actor, producer and director Cesar Montano – who also played Lim in his latest bioflick – will be the master of ceremonies for the rally, which will start at 4 p.m. The city government has yet to issue a traffic advisory.

Lim’s candidate for vice mayor, incumbent sixth district Councilor Lou Veloso, candidates for councilor for the six districts of Manila and candidates for Congress will also be present.

Team PNoy senatorial candidates are expected to attend the rally.

While the campaign period for local candidates actually begins on March 29, Good Friday, Lim “will hit the campaign trail in April, in deference to the Holy Week, which is observed by majority of Filipinos,” his chief of staff, Ric de Guzman, said.

According to De Guzman, Lim and his partymates will focus on the campaign against graft and corruption and the “matuwid na daan (straight path)” being espoused by the Aquino administration in an effort to do away with politicians who seek public office to steal from government funds and enrich themselves.

The “Lim Team” will campaign on the basis of performance, not promises and truth instead of lies, he added.

De Guzman said among Lim’s accomplishments are the establishment of six city-run hospitals; two colleges offering free education; 59 barangay health centers; 12 lying-in clinics; 485 daycare centers; 97 additional school buildings for elementary and high schools and 130 roads that were rehabilitated and upgraded.
