MANILA, Philippines - A graduating student at Philippine Science High School died after collapsing yesterday morning.

Rodesto Michael Lacerna, 15, collapsed during a practice for their graduation rites scheduled on Friday, said Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao, deputy director for administration of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

According to Pagdilao, Lacerna collapsed at around 9 a.m. yesterday.

QCPD Station 2 commander Superintendent Pedro Sanchez said the teenager was brought to the nearby Philippine Children’s Hospital along Quezon Avenue, but was declared dead upon arrival by attending physician Lea Mislang.

As of yesterday afternoon, doctors have yet to determine why Lacerna collapsed.

A source said the graduation practice was being held at the school’s gymnasium. The teenager was reportedly first brought to the school clinic unconscious.

The school reportedly cancelled afternoon classes following the incident.
