QCPD chief: Cops are not superheroes

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - As Quezon City’s top police official appealed for cooperation among village authorities, he told them that police officers are not superheroes who can detect crimes from afar.

During a meeting with village chairpersons and watchmen from the different barangays in Cubao on Friday afternoon, Quezon City Police District director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano urged them to be vigilant and report to the police whatever suspicious occurrences they might observe.

“Walang mabilisang responde kung wala ring agarang pag-report sa amin. Hindi po tayo si Superman na kahit wala sa lokasyon ng krimen ay kayang matunugan ang nangyayari dahil sa kanyang X-ray vision (We cannot respond quickly if no one reports crimes to us. We are not Superman, who can detect crimes quickly, even from afar, because of his X-ray vision),” he said.

Albano said they could call the QCPD’s contact numbers and his own cell phone number anytime.

According to Albano, residents should not fear giving information to the police since this would help maintain peace and order in their communities.

He added that the residents should not wait for the time when they themselves become the victims of criminal groups.

Albano also took the opportunity to assure village chiefs that the police would remain apolitical in the upcoming May elections.

“It is in our mandate not to favor any politician because this is strictly prohibited,” he said.
