CHED clueless on program boycott

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is unaware about the boycott of its program to set strict criteria for various types of higher education institutions (HEI) that is being spearheaded by the country’s largest association of private schools.

“We are not aware of such  call. In fact, we have already received quite a number of nominations from various HEIs all over the country, including PAASCU (Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities) member institutions,” Patricia Licuanan, CHED chairperson, said.

In a letter sent to all its members dated Feb. 22, PAASCU, led by Ateneo de Davao University president Fr. Joel Tabora, urged schools to ignore a CHED memorandum issued Feb.13, calling on all HEIs and state universities and colleges to name nominees to a team of assessors it was forming that will conduct an institutional sustainability assessment check on all schools.

“Since CHED chooses to ignore our substantive objections, I urge you not to cooperate with CHED in anyway in the implementation of the memorandum order, “ Tabora said in the letter.

He said they would also question the memorandum before the courts.
