2 hurt in Malabon fire

MANILA, Philippines -  Two people were hurt while 30 families were rendered homeless when a fire broke out at a slum area in Malabon City yesterday morning.

Flordeliza Mira Fuentes, 24; and Julito Bernales, 43, were hit by pieces of wood that fell as the fire gutted houses in Barangay Catmon about 6: 45 a.m.

Investigators said the fire started when a liquefied petroleum gas tank exploded in the house of Josephine Ramos. About 20 houses were believed to have been gutted by fire.

The fire reached second alarm before it was put out two hours later. Authorities estimated the property damage at P300,000.
