Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government will soon begin the construction of its in-city socialized housing project to provide affordable and decent homes for informal settlers and poor residents of the city.

Mayor Herbert Bautista recently signed a memorandum of agreement with Environment Undersecretary Rommel Abesamis and Rep. Jorge Banal for the development of the 4,426-square meter Bistekville 3 project in Barangay Escopa II.

The project, which will be constructed in an area administered by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), is expected to yield around 80 loft-type and 14 two-story socialized housing units.

Under the agreement, the DENR will serve as the lead agency in the selection of qualified beneficiaries of the socialized housing units. It will also be responsible in defending the titles of the project site against any administrative or legal claims.

The city government will oversee the complete land and housing development of the project, including the development of roads, drainage system, retaining walls and open spaces.

Banal’s office will be the project coordinator.

The city government has already constructed more than 1,000 housing units Barangay Payatas and Barangay Kaligayan. The city is also planning to develop in-city housing projects in Barangays Culiat, Payatas, Fairview, Sauyo, and Nagkaisang Nayon.
