QC cops urge banks to store small amounts of cash

MANILA, Philippines - Saying that robbery groups would not be enticed by small loot, police officials urged banks in Quezon City to maintain a limited amount of money as a deterrent to robbers.

Officials of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) made the suggestion during a meeting on Wednesday with officials of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

QCPD director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano and deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao met with BSP governor Amando Tetangco Jr. and deputy governor Juan de Zuñiga Jr.

During the meeting, the two police officials assured the BSP that security assistance would be given to banks in the city.

“That is a welcome initiative,” Tetangco said, noting its importance as money is regularly moved in and out of the banks all over the city.

According to Albano, banks should only store limited amounts of cash over a given period so that bank robbers would not have something to entice them.

“We should encourage them to have just the enough amounts so they wouldn’t be targeted (by robbery gangs),” Albano said during the meeting. 

De Zuñiga noted that banks usually have forecasts as to the amounts needed over a certain period.
