MANILA, Philippines - At least 30 men were arrested by Navotas police officers who raided “Kalye Impierno (Hell Road),†a slum area known as a haven for criminals, yesterday afternoon.
City police chief Senior Superintendent Conrado Gongon Jr. said investigators will check if those arrested in Barangay Daanghari’s slum are subjects of arrest warrants.
He said those who have pending cases will be turned over to the court, while those apprehended for violating city ordinances will be charged.
Gongon said two motorcycles of questionable ownership and a pack of what police officers suspected to be shabu were seized.
The Navotas police chief said Kalye Impierno is a known refuge of robbers, drug peddlers, and hired killers, among others.
This is the second crime-prone area in the Northern Police District raided by police officers. Last Feb. 15, Caloocan police officers raided a slum area, arresting persons with pending arrest warrants and seizing high-powered firearms, illegal drugs, and vehicles that may have been stolen.
