2 tourists robbed in Malate

MANILA, Philippines - Two Japanese tourists were robbed by two men on a motorcycle along Quirino Avenue in Malate, Manila before dawn yesterday.

Torao Saihhosuke, 21, and Umomura Tadatoshi, 31, both billeted at the City State Hotel on Mabini street, told investigators that the two men approached them while they were walking near the Ospital ng Maynila at around 4 a.m. and took their valuables at gunpoint.

The tourists told police they lost more than P10,000 cash, jewelry and cell phones and were only able to return to their hotel after a taxi driver helped them and brought them to the Manila Police District headquarters.
