Ex-cop nabbed for killing colleague’s pa

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman dismissed from service was arrested in La Union for allegedly killing a fellow policeman’s father in Sampaloc, Manila last year.

Fulgencio Sideco, 40, who held the rank of Police Officer 1, was apprehended in Barangay Nalvo Sur Luna Wednesday afternoon for the murder of barangay councilman Danilo Serrano, father of Police Officer 2 Lindon Serrano, on June 5, 2012.

Senior Superintendent Ruben Theodore Sindac, deputy director for operations of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), said Sideco tried to resist but was subdued by lawmen who conducted the operation based on an arrest warrant issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Ma. Theresa Estoesta.

Sindac said the elder Serrano was shot dead, reportedly by Sideco, in front of the victim’s house in Tondo.

As Sideco was brought to his cell in the HPG headquarters yesterday, Serrano’s relatives confronted him. They said the slain councilman had no known enemy in their community.

Sideco, who covered his face with a shirt, refused to comment on the case. One of Serrano’s relatives tried to remove the shirt and others tried to hit him as his two police escorts brought him to his cell.

Sindac said Sideco has a number of criminal cases against him, including car theft and illegal discharge of firearms.
