Girl, 18, hurt in Pasig heist

MANILA, Philippines - An 18-year-old girl was seriously hurt when she fought off a robber in Pasig City yesterday.

Vanessa Pilar, of Villa Tech in Barangay Palatiw, is fighting for her life at the Pasig City General Hospital after being stabbed in the stomach.

Roy Balanquet, 26, was arrested by police in a follow-up operation in his house at Mapayapa Compound in Barangay Sto. Tomas.

He yielded a six-inch knife he used in the crime.

Pilar was on her way home when the suspect blocked her path along Techno Tech Village in Barangay Palatiw at 4:15 a.m. She said Balanquet pulled out a fan knife and announced the heist.

The victim resisted the robbery, prompting the suspect to stab her repeatedly.

Balanquet escaped when Pilar fell to the ground, police said. Bystanders brought her to the hospital.
