QC pawnshop loses P.8 M to burglars

MANILA, Philippines - Burglars broke into a pawnshop in Libis, Quezon City and carted away more than P800,000 in cash and valuables, police said yesterday.

The break-in at the Tambunting pawnshop branch in Barangay Bagong Bayan was discovered at 9 a.m. by the shop’s employees.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano said the suspects took P80,000 cash and at least P800,000 worth of pawned valuables from the vault.

Residents in the area told police that the shop’s alarm system went off from 1 a.m. until 3 a.m. yesterday.

QCPD Station 12 commander Danilo Pecana said the pawnshop’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera was placed at the entrance while the vault was at the back portion of the shop.
