Brods shot over gadgets; 1 dead, 1 hurt

MANILA, Philippines - Two brothers playing with their gadgets on the sidewalk a block from their house in Sta. Cruz, Manila were robbed and shot by unidentified motorcycle-riding men Saturday morning.

Richard Dean del Monte, 22, died on the spot while his brother Rycoft, 16, is being treated at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

The brothers were playing with a laptop computer, a PlayStation Portable console and a touchscreen cell phone near the intersection of Remigio and Oroquieta streets just before 6 a.m. when the two robbers grabbed their laptop, Senior Police Officer 2 Glenzor Vallejo said.

Richard Dean resisted, forcing the robber to shoot him. Rycroft tried to help his brother but he, too, was shot. The two robbers took the gadgets and fled, Vallejo said.
