Caloocan cracks down on illegal gambling

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri has ordered the city’s police officers to intensify their campaign against illegal gambling.

Echiverri’s order stemmed from a letter sent to his office, complaining of an illegal gambling operation at the covered court of Barangay 150 Zone 13.

“Instead of youths playing basketball, it has an illegal gambling games such as color, roleta and drop ball. Youths have been addicted to these vices,” the letter, dated Feb. 1, read.

The letter sender said that the operator reportedly enjoys the protection of police and city officials.

Superintendent Jackie Candelario, the city police’s deputy chief for operations, said the sub-station that covers the barangay is verifying the allegation.
