‘Regular customers’ loot hotel suite in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines - A hotel in Caloocan City lost appliances after a couple looted one of its rooms before dawn Thursday.

Nice Hotel supervisor Antonette Velasco said “regular customers” Edwin de Leon and Dorothy Reyes allegedly took a 19-inch television, LED lamps, wall lamps, and pillowcases.

The couple, carrying only a mesh bag with them, checked in with their two alleged daughters (ages 15 and 10) at past 1 a.m. into a P575 room. Since only two people are allowed in the room, the girls were left behind in the lobby, watching television.

Velasco said this was not unusual because some of their customers leave their children to play in the lobby while they stay in the rooms.

Just before 4 a.m., the couple left their suite, saying they would come back. Velasco said the couple was supposed to check out at 7 a.m., but three hours later they had not returned.

She ordered the staff to open the suite and – thinking the couple left their belongings behind – transfer their things to the safekeeping room. Instead of finding the couple’s belongings, the hotel staff found the suite’s appliances missing.
