Drug suspect dies after banging head on jail cell bars

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A man arrested for drug possession died in a Quezon City police station Sunday night after repeatedly banging his head against the bars of his jail cell.

Roberto Marasigan, 32, was declared dead upon arrival at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center, according to Police Officer 2 Anthony Tejerero.

Fellow inmates at the Quezon City Police District Station 3 in Barangay Talipapa said Marasigan had been starting fights with his cellmates since his arrest Friday.

Inmate Andrew Bagang said they had just finished dinner when Marasigan went into the bathroom. When he came out, Marasigan reportedly became unruly and kicked some of the inmates, Bagang said.

Police officers intervened and ordered the inmates to place Marasigan in front of the jail cell. It was at this point that Marasigan reportedly started banging his head against the bars until he fell unconscious.
