2 ‘troublemakers’ hurt in shootout with Malabon cop

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two alleged troublemakers were wounded in a shootout Saturday with a Malabon City police officer who responded to a report from a concerned citizen.

Charges of attempted homicide, violation of the election gun ban, and illegal possession of firearms will be filed against Michael Galla, 23, and Manny Manzano, 19, who were hospitalized after the shootout with Senior Police Officer 1 Jerome Peralta.

SPO4 Enrico Palomar III said Peralta and some barangay watchmen were dispatched to Barangay Tugatog following a report from a resident who said that a group of armed men were creating trouble in the area.

The suspects shot at the watchmen and Peralta, prompting Peralta to fire back.

Galla and Manzano, who each sustained a gunshot wound, were rushed to the Tondo Hospital and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Hospital, respectively, for treatment. Two homemade guns were recovered from the suspects.
