Girl dies in Commonwealth Avenue mishap

MANILA, Philippines - A 15-year-old girl was run over by a sport utility vehicle as she was crossing Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Traffic investigator Police Officer 2 Paul Florendo said Danica Balbuena was declared dead on arrival at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against businessman Valeriano Ponce, who was driving a Nissan X-Trail when he encountered Balbuena in front of the Commonwealth Market at around 1 a.m., Florendo said.

He added that Ponce is currently in police custody.
