QC waives birth certificate requirement for enrollees

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - School-age children who do not have birth certificates will still be able to enroll in all Quezon City public schools for the incoming academic year, the city government announced yesterday.

Schools division superintendent Dr. Corazon Rubio said they have decided to waive the birth certificate requirement to give all children, especially first-time enrollees, the opportunity to go to school even if they do not have official birth records.

“What the city schools division is doing is encourage parents to send their children to school even without the birth certificate requirement,” said Rubio.

“They can submit their birth certificates later after their enrollment,” she added.

According to Rubio, her office had already enlisted the support of all public schools in the city to assist in facilitating the late registration of the birth certificates of children who do not have records at the local civil registry office.

The announcement came as the Department of Education started the early registration in public schools yesterday.

The Quezon City local government said they would also conduct household mapping to determine the number of school-age children who are not in school.
