Cop shot dead in Malabon

Aie Balagtas See -

MANILA, Philippines -  A policeman assigned to the National Capital Region Police Office was shot dead near a school in Malabon City yesterday morning.

Police Officer 2 Rolando Madronero, formerly with the Malabon police, was sitting on his Yamaha Mio motorcycle near Tanong National High School when three to five men approached him and shot him in the head at past 6 a.m., city police chief Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Ampil said.

The men fled, leaving behind five spent .45 caliber shells.

Madronero was in civilian attire when he was killed. Under the election-related gun ban, police officers can only carry guns when they are in uniform.

Ampil declined to discuss why Madronero was killed, saying it could jeopardize the investigation.
