Dog refuses to leave ‘best friend’ till death

MANILA, Philippines - A dog is a man’s best friend.

This was proven yesterday when a dog refused to leave his dead master in Mandaluyong City.

PO3 Edison Plarisan of the Mandaluyong police said the dog was licking the body of Aurora Salloman, 66, and appeared to be waking her up.

Elizabeth Bernardo told police that Salloman, a retired clerk at the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong City, failed to come out of her house at Palanca compound in Nueve de Pebrero street, Barangay Mauway along with her pet dog since Friday last week.

Yesterday, Bernardo sought police assistance after she smelled foul odor emanating from Salloman’s house.

Plarisan and PO2 Danilo Patoc arrived at Salloman’s residence at about 10:40 a.m. and found her lifeless in her room, with her pet dog beside her.

Since the dog refused to leave Salloman’s side, the two police investigators sought the help of barangay officials to take care of the dog.

Salloman was last seen alive by her neighbors last Jan. 18 when she went out of the house with her pet dog in tow.

Her body was brought to a funeral parlor in Mandaluyong.
