MANILA, Philippines - A married man landed in jail for allegedly beating up and burning his 19-year-old lover who had just broken up with him in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City Tuesday.
Alex Reyes, a mechanic, reportedly got the victim pregnant, police said.
The suspect was arrested during a follow-up operation in Pandi, Bulacan, according to Quezon City Police District director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano.
QCPD-Station 6 commander Superintendent Ramon Pranada said their investigation showed that Reyes was wooing back the victim since they would have a child but she refused.
Pranada said the suspect managed to trace the victim, who was living with her sister in Barangay Commonwealth.
Confronting the woman, Reyes got hold of a hammer and hit her on the head. He also burned her with a flat iron.
The suspect poured kerosene on the victim and set her on fire. She was rescued by her relatives and rushed her to a hospital.
