Cop killed in hit-and-run

MANILA, Philippines - A Northern Police District policeman was killed in a hit-and-run in Navotas City yesterday.

Police Officer 3 Edgardo Bugallon, 48, was on his way home, driving along Road 10 in Sitio Sto. Niño in Navotas when a speeding tractor head sideswiped him, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Conrado Gongon.

Bugallon was thrown from his motorcycle, and he was found 20 meters away from the crash site. The tractor head and its driver were nowhere to be found. said Bugallon was declared dead on arrival at the Tondo General Hospital.

Witnesses said “it happened so fast that no one was able to jot down the plate number of the truck,” Police Officer 1 Reynaldo Sigua said.

He added that the crash site is an “accident-prone” area because it is poorly lit and motorists passing through Road 10 usually drive too fast, particularly during the wee hours of the night.
