Pickpockets use spit to distract victim

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  A woman lost her cell phone and money to pickpockets, one of whom spat on her hair to distract her, as she was riding a jeepney in Quezon City Saturday afternoon.

Jennifer Salvador, 21, was on her way home from a medical testing center in Barangay Old Balara when she boarded a jeepney. Upon reaching the corner of Feria Road, four men boarded the vehicle, according to a report from the Quezon City Police District Station 6.

As the jeepney reached the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Ilang-ilang street in Barangay Batasan Hills, one of the men spat on her hair, and another called her attention to the saliva on her hair.

Police said yet another man took advantage of Salvador’s distraction to steal her cell phone worth P8,000 and her money from her bag.

The four men got off the jeepney in front of a mall along Commonwealth Avenue. It was only later that Salvador found out that she had been victimized, police said.
