Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - An alleged drug pusher escaped from his jail guard after he was confined at a hospital in Manila before dawn Wednesday.

Joey Corbilla, 34, complained of chest pains and kidney problems, according to Inspector Antonio Gaya-gaya, chief of the Manila City Jail’s community relations.

Jail doctors found Corbilla’s condition “life-threatening,” prompting jail officials to send him to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center on Jan. 7.

His escape from Jail Officer 1 Andrew Cumayas was discovered at around 5:49 a.m. Wednesday.

Gaya-gaya told The STAR Cumayas has been restricted to barracks, pending the results of an investigation into his criminal and administrative liabilities.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology spokesperson Xavier Solda said a manhunt has been launched for Corbilla.
