Man shot dead in Baseco wake

MANILA, Philippines - A construction worker was killed yesterday morning while four others were injured when a man fired at a group of people attending a wake in Baseco Compound, Manila.

Police said Froiland Magallanes, 50, a resident of Block 1 Aplaya, Baseco Compound, died from gunshot wounds at the back and his forearms, while Rosario Rosin, 38, Dolores Socon, 64, Leonora Briones, 42, and her husband Nobelito Briones, 45, were wounded and treated at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital.

Investigators said Magallanes and the other victims were playing a card game at the wake of Socon’s son at around 2:15 a.m. when the still unidentified suspect arrived and shot the victims.

Senior Police Officer 2 Glenzor Vallejo said they are still investigating the motive for the incident.
