Jinggoy gives out aid to San Juan fire victims
MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada spent the afternoon of Dec. 31, 2012 giving relief goods to 1,700 families whose homes in Barangay St. Joseph, San Juan were destroyed by fire on Christmas Day.
The basketball courts of Barangay St. Joseph and nearby Barangay Corazon de Jesus as well as the Pinaglabanan Elementary School are serving as evacuation and relief centers for the people rendered homeless by the fire.
Estrada, who served as San Juan’s mayor and vice mayor, was joined by his wife, Precy, and eldest daughter, Janella, in distributing cooked meals, blankets and other goods. They also visited the site of the fire, which also destroyed the home of one of the senator’s staff members.
The city government has also launched a 10-day program to provide meals, medical treatment and tents to those who lost their homes in the fire.
