Ayala, Makati Avenues closed for New Year’s countdown

MANILA, Philippines - Two major roads in Makati City’s business district will be closed to  traffic starting Saturday in preparation for the annual New Year’s Eve countdown.

In an advisory issued yesterday, the Makati City government said the rerouting would take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday for the countdown to be held at the Ayala Triangle at the corner of Ayala and Makati Avenues.

“Both directions of Ayala Avenue from Paseo de Roxas to Parkway Drive and Makati Avenue from Dela Rosa Street to Paseo de Roxas will be closed to vehicular traffic to make way (for) the construction of a stage and placing of necessary equipment and fireworks paraphernalia,” the advisory stated.

The rerouting scheme will be in effect until Jan. 1, 2013, the city government said in its advisory.

With the rerouting, passenger buses from EDSA will have to take Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue in going toward Osmeña Highway or Pasay City, and vice versa.
