BOC seizes P1.6-M plywood

Iris Gonzales - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized two 40-footer shipping containers plywood worth P1.6 million misdeclared as particle boards.

Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon said yesterday that the shipment of film-faced plywood, consigned to Dragon Clash Enterprises of Sta. Cruz, Manila, arrived at the Manila Container Port on Nov. 30.

“Particle boards fall under a different tariff heading and rating with that of film-faced plywood,” Biazon said.

In October, the Philippine Wood Producers Association asked Biazon to stop the technical smuggling of plywood products, saying the practice is hurting the local wood industry.
