MANILA, Philippines - The body of a man was found hanging from a mango tree in front of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) yesterday morning.
Police have yet to determine if the death of the still unidentified man, said to be in his early 20s, was a suicide or if there was foul play involved.
Police Officer 1 Romeo Nino said the body was found at past 7 a.m. in front of the LTO office on East Avenue in Barangay Pinyahan.
Nino said a sidewalk vendor was the one who first noticed the body, partly hidden by leaves, hanging from the tree with a nylon rope looped around his neck.
The vendor said she reported her find to authorities, who brought down the body with the help of firefighters.
Nino said the man, clad in beige cargo shorts and a blue-green shirt, has a birthmark in the right armpit and a 16-inch scar on his abdomen. The victim was fair-skinned and 5’4” tall, he added.
Nino said there were no other external injuries on the man’s body except for rope marks on the neck.
