Suspect in Caloocan twin slays charged

Pete Laude - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 25-year-old man tagged in the slaying of two girls in Caloocan City was charged before the city prosecutor’s office Friday afternoon.

Gilbert Fulloso, a resident of Barangay 12 in Dagat-Dagatan, was charged with double murder before the office of Prosecutor Darwin Canete for the killing of second year high school student Diana Rose Liza, 15, and her nine-year-old cousin Joanna Marie Coronado, a fourth grader.

“I am really sorry. I was not in my right mind that time,” Fulloso said when asked why he killed the two girls.

The suspect told police investigators that he was drunk and high on marijuana when he committed the crime but maintained that he had no intention of killing the victims.

Fulloso, whose house is next to that of the victims, said that he passed by the girls’ house before dawn Sunday and saw the door open.

“Their door was open when I passed by so I went inside to tell them (victims) somebody could enter their house, but they went hysterical,” he said.

Fulloso said that he rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed to death the girls to stop them from shouting.

Liza died from 59 stab wounds and her head was almost severed while Coronado sustained 23 stab wounds in the different parts of her body.

Coronado’s younger brother found the bodies of the victims at about 6:30 a.m.

Analyn Coronado, 41, mother of Joanna, said that she also wanted Fulloso to die because he took two innocent lives.

“I want him to experience the pain from the wounds he inflicted to my daughter and Diana,” she said.

Analyn thanked the police for the immediate arrest of Fulloso.

A police team, led by Chief Inspector Rodrigo Soriano and Senior Inspector Enrique Torres with SPO4 Arnold Gonzales and SPO3 Joemar Ronquillo, arrested the suspect Thursday night in Polangui, Albay.

Metro Manila police chief Director Leonardo Espina yesterday lauded Caloocan police chief Senior Superintendent Rimas Calixto and his men along with Polangui policemen PO1 Mark Angelo Encisa, SPO2 Godofredo Encisa and PO3 Alfredo Lauriano Nativitad for the resolution of the twin murders.
