Student named in killing of Valenzuela councilor’s aide

Pete Laude - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A college student was accused yesterday of killing a Valenzuela City councilor’s aide Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Police Officer 4 Jesus Sagisi, Valenzuela City police senior investigator, said at least three witnesses identified Roberto Guevarra, 24, as the alleged killer of Domingo Dimas, 38, a staff member of Councilor Lorena Natividad-Borja.

“The suspect was easily identified by the witnesses for he was still wearing his school uniform when chased by the victim’s neighbors after the crime was uncovered,” Sagisi told The STAR.

Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor, city police chief, directed his men yesterday to hunt down the suspect, the alleged lover of Dimas.

Dimas, a resident of Barangay Parada, died of at least 24 stab wounds while on the way to the hospital after he was attacked in his room on the second floor at around 2:30 p.m.

Jerico James Dimas, 18, the victim’s nephew, told police he saw the suspect visit Dimas at his house at least thrice.

Jerico said he felt something had happened to his uncle in his room and sought the help of neighbors. Guevarra allegedly fled by jumping from the balcony of Dimas’ room.

Sagisi said they are eyeing robbery as the motive in Dimas’ killing since his mobile phone, jewelry and some cash were missing. He said that the suspect allegedly tried but failed to open the safety vault in the victim’s room.
