MANILA, Philippines - Filipino nurses aspiring to work in Canada, beware.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) yesterday cautioned Filipino nurses not to accept jobs in Canada that are being offered through e-mail.

POEA chief Hans Cacdac said the Philippine embassy in Canada has warned the public against a scam circulating through e-mail and offering Filipino nurses non-existent jobs in Toronto-based hospitals.

Cacdac said the e-mail offers work with Shouldice hospital and invites applicants to a supposed “coaching interview” allegedly being conducted by the hospital staff in Makati.

The supposed interview was in preparation for an interview to be conducted by the Canadian employers in Manila.             – Mayen Jaymalin

But before the interview, Cacdac said the applicants are required to pay a fee of P3,888 for a two-day seminar at the completion of the initial consultation.

The POEA said that based on the information coming from Shouldice management, the hospital is being represented illegitimately by an unidentified agency in the Philippines.

According to Cacdac, the hospital has been receiving numerous e-mail and telephone inquiries about the alleged coaching interview.

He said the applicants are also being asked to send the money via Western Union to somebody who is claiming to be an officer of the hospital.

The POEA reminded prospective overseas Filipino workers to verify with the agency any job offers from abroad to avoid being victimized by unscrupulous individuals.  -
