Lawmaker hurt in Skyway mishap

MANILA, Philippines - Agusan del Sur Rep. Ma. Valentina Plaza sustained minor injuries after figuring in a motorcycle accident along the Skyway in Bicutan, Taguig City yesterday morning.

Plaza was driving a black Triumph 750 motorcycle on the Skyway’s northbound lane when she skidded on a part of the road that is being re-asphalted.

Senior Police Officer 1 Ernesto Arevalo of the Highway Patrol Group said the accident happened shortly before 5 a.m.

“She may not have seen it so she went into a skid,” Skyway vice president Ed Nepomuceno in a phone interview.

Plaza was brought to Makati Medical Center by her bodyguards. She reportedly sustained bruises and contusions.

According to reports, the section under repair did not have early warning devices. Nepomuceno said there were devices 500 meters away from the site.
