JI link of Baseco ‘killer’ probed
MANILA, Philippines - The Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) is investigating the alleged connection of a security guard tagged in the killing at least eight persons at the Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila to the international terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).
Mohalidin Guiamaludin, 41, had been bragging inside his cell at the Manila Police District (MPD) that he was a member of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and a close-in security of its founding chairman Nur Misuari.
Police Officer 3 Rodel Benitez said they recovered police and MNLF identification cards from the suspect during his recent arrest.
A source said ISAFP is checking their records and expanding their intelligence gathering on Guiamaludin, who is accused of killing eight persons this year alone.
Benitez said Guiamaludin was tagged in the slaying of barangay official Manap Sapak and his wife, Soraida, on June 15. He allegedly killed Gerard Borden, 15, and Jeffrey Hopio, 20, on Sept. 9.
