QC plans to build columbarium, crematorium

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government is eyeing the creation of a city-owned crematorium and columbarium that will offer low-cost cremation and burial services.

According to Mayor Herbert Bautista, the establishment of these facilities will address needs of families who want their deceased relatives cremated and placed in a columbarium instead of being buried or placed in an apartment-type niche.

Bautista said that for this project, the city government may have to close down the Baesa Cemetery along Quirino Highway. He said the cemetery can be utilized better if it would be developed into a columbarium as it would accommodate more dead people.

For those who want their relatives to be buried, the mayor said they can use the Bagbag Cemetery as the final resting place for the deceased.
