MMDA gets ready for All Saints’ Day
MANILA, Philippines - Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager Corazon Jimenez will meet today with local government officials and administrators of cemeteries in the metropolis to finalize preparations for this year’s observance of All Saints’ Day.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the application of 40 public utility buses (PUBs) for special permits so they can convey passengers outside their normal routes in anticipation of the exodus of commuters on Nov. 1.
LTFRB public information officer Sonia del Mundo said the board is still processing the application of 100 more bus units.
She said the permit for special trips would be effective starting today until Nov. 4.
The LTFRB will also set up assistance desks at major bus terminals in Metro Manila to monitor bus fares.
Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian has ordered the local police to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order during the celebration of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
Gatchalian said checkpoints will be set up in strategic areas in the city to deter lawless elements.
He also called on business establishment owners to make sure that their premises are tightly watched during the long weekend.
The mayor added that barangay watchmen will serve as force multipliers.
More traffic aides will be tapped to help man traffic in areas leading to cemeteries.
Mayor Alfredo Lim, meanwhile, asked Manilans to start early in cleaning the tombs of their departed relatives at the Manila North and South cemeteries.
He said vehicles will be allowed to enter the cemeteries until midnight of Oct. 29.
