P40-million suspected shabu found in bakeshop

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A businessman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police officers raided his bakeshop in Malabon City and found a large plastic container full of what investigators suspect was shabu, with an estimated street value of P40 million, and six plastic bags of chemicals used in the manufacture of the illegal drug.

Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Ampil, Malabon City police chief, said they were preparing yesterday charges of illegal possession of dangerous drugs against Jimmy Ang, 48, alias Jimmy Lim.

According to Ampil, the bakeshop stopped operation last January after Ang failed to renew the permit for his business.

He said they recently received intelligence reports claiming that Ang was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade. On Tuesday, the police secured a warrant from Malabon Regional Trial Court Judge Carlos Flores to search Ang’s property.

Ampil said they were just waiting for the results of the Northern Police District crime laboratory’s examination of the seized substances to file charges against Lim.
