Bistek sees QC as next '3G city'

MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista yesterday delivered his third State of the City Address (SOCA) in which he called for support to transform the city into a Global Growth Generator (3G) city.

“These are places where the next economic miracles will take place, a city that will grow above expectations,” Bautista said in his speech, which lasted about an hour.

He said the city has to empower the four sectors that promise economic growth – information technology, health and wellness, environment-based business, and tourism – to transform into a 3G city.

Before Bautista’s speech, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte delivered her Ulat sa Bayan in which she highlighted various ordinances passed by the city council in the past year.

These include ordinances on plastic bag reduction, creation of a city tourism department, and the implementation of various road safety and social welfare measures.

During the session, the city council approved the city budget for 2013, amounting to more than P12 billion. The budget ordinance was signed by Bautista and Belmonte during their respective speeches.
