Shipping exec slain in ambush

MANILA, Philippines -  A Manila shipping firm executive was killed while her son was wounded when two motorcycle-riding men waylaid them in Caloocan City Friday night.

Senior Superintendent Rimas Calixto, the newly designated Caloocan City police chief, identified the fatality as Ma. Teresita Go, 47, president of Poseidon Shipping Line in Ermita, Manila.

Go was declared dead on arrival at the Valenzuela Medical Center while her 10-year-old son, Charles Dustinn, whose forehead was grazed by a bullet, was allowed to go home after treatment.

Senior Police Officer 1 Joselito Barredo Jr. said Go was driving a gray Toyota Fortuner (ZPM-688), with her children Darryl Edimar, 19, and Charles Dustinn as passengers. They were on their way home to Barangay 162 in Sta. Quiteria, Caloocan City when they were ambushed along a dimly lit portion of Tullahan Road at around 10 p.m.

Two men on a motorcycle approached the Fortuner’s left side and shot at the driver, hitting Go in the body. A bullet grazed the forehead of Charles Dustinn, who was seated behind his mother.

Darryl Edimar, who was in the front passenger seat, was unharmed, Barredo said.

The gunmen sped away without taking anything from the victims.

Tricycle driver Armando dela Cruz brought the victims to the Valenzuela Medical Center but Go died on the way to the hospital.

Investigators, led by Chief Inspector Benigno Asilar Jr., recovered three .45 caliber shells at the crime scene. The Caloocan City police said its investigators are coordinating with their counterparts in Manila to determine whether Go’s murder is connected to her job.
