UP Diliman student hurt in rob try
MANILA, Philippines - An alleged robber was arrested Monday morning after stabbing a female student right inside the University of the Philippines campus in Diliman.
Matthew Honrada, 27, was arrested by campus security guards who saw the robbery attempt.
Police said Jacklyn Nicole Cua, 21, sustained stab wounds in the arm and hand from the incident.
A report from the Quezon City Police District Station 9 stated that Honrada attempted to rob the girl at a parking lot between the building of the College of Business Administration and Vinzons Hall at around 9 a.m.
Senior Police Officer 1 Manuel Carranza said Cua had just gotten out of her car when the man walked up to her. Honrada asked the student for directions to another college and then tried to stab her.
Carranza said the student managed to evade some of the blows but the suspect grabbed her bag and ran off. Campus security guards heard her shouts and ran after the suspect.
Guards recovered the victim’s bag containing her wallet with P1,800 cash, a pencil case, a calculator worth P1,200 and other belongings, along with Honrado’s folding knife.
