Vendor kills market caretaker in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - A vendor stabbed dead the caretaker of Paco Market in Manila Saturday after the victim accused him of stealing chickens from other vendors.

Jose Meneses, 62, died on the spot after Generoso Bernandino attacked him while he was doing his chores at around 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

Bernandino, 33, who sells chicken parts, said a friend told him about over hearing Meneses accusing him of the thefts and bragging about killing him once he falls asleep.

He said he killed Meneses rather than risk the victim killing him. Bernandino tried to escape after the incident but was arrested by barangay watchmen and turned over to the police.
