Baby kidnapped from Quezon City hospital found?

- Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A government facility is set to conduct a DNA test on an infant found in Occidental Mindoro, suspected to be the same one snatched from a hospital in Quezon City early last month.

Sources told The STAR the government facility has agreed to conduct the DNA exam for free since the baby’s kidnapping is suspected to be a case of human trafficking.

According to sources, the baby boy is set to be brought to Manila this week as “documentation” is ongoing for the transfer of custody of the child from social workers in Mindoro to their counterparts in Metro Manila.

They said the DNA test will determine if Cecilia delos Santos – the mother whose infant was kidnapped from the Sta. Teresita Hospital last month – is right in her claim that the baby could be hers.

“The DNA test will settle once and for all if the baby found there (in Mindoro) is the same one stolen from the mother in Quezon City,” one of the sources said.

Apart from the DNA exam, footprints of the baby snatched from the hospital will also be compared to those of the child found in Mindoro.

The baby was traced by police authorities in Occidental Mindoro on Thursday last week. A woman, who had custody of the child found in Mindoro, claimed that another woman – supposedly the baby’s mother – had entrusted the infant to her. She also told policemen the baby was from a hospital in Trece Martires, Cavite.

Policemen have been trying to locate Delos Santos’ newborn baby, who was taken from her by a woman who had posed as a doctor while they were at Sta. Teresita Hospital in Quezon City.

When photos of the missing infant were reported in the media, a tipster contacted authorities that a baby in Mindoro looked like the child. Upon seeing the infant found in Mindoro, Delos Santos told authorities she felt that the baby was hers.
