Lim, Veloso to file COCs

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and his running mate, Councilor Lou Veloso, will file their certificates of candidacy (COCs) Monday morning.

They will be joined by 36 candidates for councilor, six candidates for each of Manila’s six districts, according to a statement from Lim’s office.

Lim and Veloso will attend a 7 a.m. Mass at the city hall’s freedom triangle and the regular flag-raising ceremony at 7:45 a.m. From there, they will proceed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Arroceros to file their COCs, along with the candidates for council.

The city’s six congressmen, who earlier pledged to support Lim’s re-election bid, will file their COCs at the Comelec headquarters in Intramuros.

Veloso, a theater and movie actor, garnered the most votes among the 36-member city council. This qualifies him to sit as the vice mayor and preside over council meetings each time Vice Mayor Isko Moreno is unavailable.

Lim’s rival, former President Joseph Estrada, and Moreno will file their COCs on Tuesday. – Rey Galupo, Sandy Araneta
