MANILA, Philippines - National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina yesterday vowed to step up the drive against criminals in the metropolis as he pressed for the presence of police officers in barangay halls.
Espina said the NCRPO and the various police districts of Metro Manila have recently scored big in its drive versus criminals with round-the-clock patrols.
Citing a snatching incident in a Caloocan alley, “if we had police officers on patrol along with barangay watchmen, we would have a fighting chance” to catch the snatcher, he said.
“We will try our best. This is the nearest to a realistic approach. We are on the ground, even in the smallest barangay,” he said.
Espina reported to Camp Crame that the Quezon City Police District’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group have arrested two Chinese, identified as Mao Yuaning and Ong Kieng Yok, together with Filipinos Manan Jalal Mua and Somagana Bocare for allegedly selling a kilo of shabu along Banawe street.
Police also recovered another kilo of shabu from the suspects’ car.
The Southern Police District Anti-Illegal Drug Operations Group arrested Ferdinand Santos during a drug bust and recovered two sachets of shabu and P2,000 in Bagumbayan, Taguig City.
In Marikina City, anti-drug police officers arrested Aquilino Pascual in Barangay Calumpang for possession of a sachet of shabu while Teresita Maranias was arrested for carrying two sachets of dried marijuana when she visited the city jail.
In Manila, Station 2 police officers arrested Reynaldo Capispisan for theft along Elcano street in Tondo while Station 9 caught Jolas Castillo and Walid Puylaon shoplifting two pairs of denim pants from a supermarket in Malate.
